Cairn Design & Build is run by Mike & Elspeth Coker.

Mike Coker Mike has extensive experience in building and property development, from site work to board level.
He is a professionally-qualified Chartered builder and skilled project manager, producing buildings that are well-designed, innovative and built to time and budget. Mike overseas all aspects of each project and takes a "hands-on" approach to building.

 

Elspeth looks after sales and marketing, and is the main contact for clients, making sure that they are kept up to date and fully informed of progress on their job.

Our craftsmen and tradesmen are highly experienced and skilled, and have all been carefully chosen by us. They all work to the same high quality.

How we work We are different from most builders and construction companies. We know how much each project means to our clients – so every assignment is treated with the same high standards that we would expect if we were the client.

 

Cairn UK - bespoke equestrian buildings Reliable We tell you what we're going to do before we do it, and then we do it. We'll be there when you expect us. We also ensure that you are happy with all aspects of our work throughout the project.

Considerate We cause as little disruption as we can on site. We keep noise, dust and waste to a minimum, and clean up when we've finished.

 

Planning your building project Transparent We discuss everything with you before we start, and keep you fully informed as your project progresses. All costs are set out in a fully-detailed cost plan in advance, so you know exactly what is included and what you're getting. Any variations to cost are fully explained and discussed with you as they occur, so you don't get a nasty surprise at the end of the project. If any options arise at any stage, we'll discuss these with you, so that you can decide on which way you want to go.

 

Keeping you informed We go out of our way to keep you up to date with progress. We'll talk your project through with you every day, and if you're not on site we'll give you regular telephone updates. If anything changes or if we find a problem, we'll tell you straight away. If you decide to change something about your building part way through, that's not a problem - we'll talk through the options with you, including any implications on costs, and only proceed once you've agreed with what we propose.

 

Sustainability We take the 'green' aspects of building design very seriously.
  • All timber is from managed forests
  • We use recycled aggregates wherever possible
  • We offer thermal insulation standards exceeding UK Building Regulations standards as an option. Many clients opt for this because of the excellent payback and carbon footprint reduction obtainable if installed at the time of construction
  • The thermal insulation we install is to a higher standard than the minimum required by UK Building Regulations
  • We can include energy-saving measures such as solar voltaic panels, ground-source heat pumps and natural light pipes We're happy to discuss any sustainability or environmental measures you have on top of these.

 

NHBC & Building Regulations We can manage the process of NHBC registration as part of a new build.

UK Building Regulations All work has to comply with the national Building Regulations to meet planning requirements. To make sure that your project proceeds to time and budget, we have an in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of the Building Regulations, and ensure that all work is to the specifications and British Standards embodied in them.
